Arizona State faced off with Long Beach State in a double header Saturday, with Arizona State taking the series, winning the games 7-1 and 8-2. Game 1 had balanced scoring from Arizona State, getting 2 goals a piece from Ryan Cotton, Ian Bast, and Wes Fry. Travis Ringeman netted 4 goals in the 5 o’clock game, contributing to the 8-2 win. Long Beach State’s goals were scored by Gregory Dansereau, Joe Kubani and Kan Yamamoto. Yamamoto picked up points on all 3 Long Beach State goals.
Also a double header on Saturday was University of Arizona and Arizona State’s Division 3 squads. Arizona surprised ASU in the 9:00am game, winning by a score of 6-5. Arizona’s Ryan Cigile scored 4 goals, including the game winner with 3:27 remaining. In game 2, Arizona State sought revenge, and took it, winning by a score of 13-10. The 3rd period alone featured 12 combined goals, and flipped the game on its head, as Arizona was leading 6-5 heading into the 3rd. As there are too many goal scorers to list, the story was a completely offensive 3rd period and a lack of defense – these 2 teams had better change that strategy when they arrive at Huntington Beach next month, as playoff implications are on the line. Arizona State’s D3 squad also played an exhibition game against Arizona’s D2 team, and came out defeated 5-3, but did lead 3-2 heading into the 3rd period.
