Arizona State's Winning Ways Continue


Division I Results from Peoria, AZ

The Arizona State Sundevils continued their winning ways, with 4 wins this weekend.  The Sundevils currently sit in 1st place in the WCRHL Division I standings with a record of 11-1.  In games against UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, CSU Northridge, and Long Beach State, the Sundevils outscored opponents 38-10.
 
The featured matchup of the day was between the Arizona State Sundevils and the Long Beach State 49ers.  The teams had split their season to date, with 1 win a piece.  Arizona State started out strong, with 6 straight goals in the first period.  Long Beach changed their goaltenders near the end of the first period, and that seemed to spark the team, as the 49ers outscored the Sundevils 4-1 in the final 2 periods.   In the third period, the Sundevils managed to kill off a 2-man deficit early on, and hold the 49ers at bay for the rest of the period.  The final score was 7-4 in Arizona State's favor, with top scorers Brian Ganz (Arizona State, 2 goals, 2 assists), Derek Bolls (Arizona State, 2 goals, 1 assists, and Alex Dodt (Arizona State, 1 goal, 2 assists).  Ryan Burrows led the 49ers with 2 goals.
 
UNLV finished the day 4-0 as well, moving up in the standings.  UNLV defeated Long Beach State 8-2 in the final game of the day for the 2 teams.  Nick Robone (UNLV) scored 3 goals and 1 assist to lead UNLV past Long Beach.
 
The final game of the day featured the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs and the CSU Northridge Matadors.  The Matadors struck first, scoring the first 2 goals of the game.  The Matadors led 4-3 halfway through the 2nd period.  The Mustangs outscored the Matadors 4-2 in the final period, and that was the difference.  Cal Poly defeated CSU Northridge by a score of 8-6.  Brian Costello (Cal Poly SLO, 3 goals, 1 assist), Casey Gagnon (Cal Poly SLO, 1 goal, 3 assists), and Kevin Middlekauff (Cal Poly SLO, 3 goals) led the Mustangs, while Vance Wilson (CSU Northridge, 2 goals, 1 assist) led the Matadors.
