UC Santa Barbara and CSU Northridge Home-and-Home Results Preview of Dec. 5th Event in Peoria, AZ

Posted: December 01, 2009 7:08PM; Updated: December 01, 2009 7:17PM On 2 consecutive Sunday evenings, November 15 and 22, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos and CSU Northridge Matadors travelled to each other's respective home rink to play in the first home-and-home series in WCRHL history. Each game ended in an 11-1 win for the UC Santa Barbara team, but this game was more than a matter of wins and losses. For both teams, being able to play on their home rink, in front of their home crowd, was worth the extra effort and travel that both teams' organizers and all participating players put forth.
This option is available for all WCRHL Division I teams, as long as all league requirements can be satisfied. Contact the league director at info@wcrhl.com for more information.
On to the games...Sean Kleckner of UCSB tallied 10 points in the 2 games, with 3 goals and 7 assists, to lead both teams in scoring. Hat Tricks for the Gauchos included Mike Weiderhold, Casey Wedge, and Billy Hahn. Just about every UCSB player figured in the scoring in some way or another. Josh Fields and Vance Wilson each scored 1 goal for the Matadors. Jay Schoen backstopped the Gauchos both games, while Josh Rodner faced a barrage of shots in each game, stopping a combined total of 46 of 68 shots.
This weekend, December 5th, all 6 WCRHL Division I teams converge on the Rollerplex in Peoria, Arizona, home rink of the Arizona State Sun Devils. Some teams will face each other for the 3rd time this season. The WCRHL is highlighting the afternoon games, starting at 3pm and going to 8pm, as those should be some of the best matchups of the day.
3pm - UNLV vs UCSB - These 2 teams have faced off twice this season, each team winning one. We will see who takes the lead on the season series.
4pm - Arizona State vs Long Beach State - Same story as the above game. Arguably the 2 top teams, this should be one of the best games on the day.
5pm - UCSB vs Cal Poly SLO - These long-time archrivals face off for the 2nd time this season. UCSB won the first one, 5-3. Cal Poly will be looking for revenge, a long way from home for both teams.
6pm - UNLV vs Long Beach State - Long Beach beat UNLV 7-2 at the Irvine event in November, but UNLV is looking to gain some ground. Expect them to play hard this weekend and possibly move up a spot or two in the standings.
7pm - Cal Poly SLO vs CSU Northridge - These 2 teams have played twice already this season, with Cal Poly winning both games. These 2 teams have the highest goals against in Division I currently, so look for a lot of opportunities for both teams.
