2 WCRHL Division I teams will play in the first-ever college roller hockey home games on the West Coast.  UC Santa Barbara and CSU Northridge will play 1 game at each home arena.  The first will be held this Sunday, November 15th at the on-campus rink at UC Santa Barbara’s Recreation Center II (Multi-Activity Court, MAC).  The second will be held the following Sunday, November 22 at the Rollerdome in Thousand Oaks, CA.

UC Santa Barbara, the 2008-2009 WCRHL Division I Champion, currently sits in 3rd place with 4 wins and 3 losses, trailing Arizona State and Long Beach State. CSU Northridge, in only their 2nd year in the league, currently sits in 6th place with 1 win and 5 losses so far this season.

Not since the mid-90’s have college roller hockey teams played home games. Even then, it was basically the UC Santa Barbara team getting the home games, while teams such as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Pepperdine University and Ventura City College travelled to UC Santa Barbara’s home rink in Goleta, CA to play single games.  The “event weekend” format was instituted in 1996 in order to decrease travel costs and manage a league of teams from all over the state.  To this date the event weekend is a method that works, but all WCRHL teams have the option of playing home games at a time of their choosing and at a location of their choosing.

Interested teams should email the WCRHL at info@wcrhl.com to inquire about these possibilities, as there are several logistical items that need to be addressed for these games to take place.
